Oval pools are one of the most common above-ground pool shapes. They're slightly more complex than round pools—the elongated shape means the robot needs to cover more ground and handle gentle curves at both ends. While still a relatively simple shape to clean, the right robot makes the difference between a quick, thorough clean and a frustrating experience with missed end sections.
An oval pool has more floor area than a round pool of equivalent width, plus curved ends that can cause robots to circle instead of covering the straight middle section. The elongated shape means the robot needs to transition between straight-line cleaning in the middle and curved navigation at the ends. It's not as simple as a round pool, but it's far easier than a freeform or kidney shape.
In an oval pool, a robot with even basic systematic pathing will outperform a purely random robot. The straight middle section benefits from back-and-forth passes, while the curved ends need the robot to transition smoothly. Random robots waste time re-covering the middle while missing the ends. A robot with consistent floor coverage patterns handles the oval shape efficiently and finishes in less time.

The Dolphin Escape is our top pick for oval above-ground pools. For owners who want wall climbing, the Dolphin Cayman is an excellent upgrade.
Slightly. The elongated shape means more floor area and curved ends, but it's still one of the simpler pool shapes. Any quality above-ground robot will handle an oval pool effectively.
Not necessarily. Floor cleaning covers the primary need for most above-ground oval pools. However, if you notice algae or debris on the walls, upgrading to the Dolphin Cayman with wall-climbing capability is worthwhile.
Most oval above-ground pools can be cleaned in 1.5–2.5 hours depending on size. The elongated shape takes slightly longer than a round pool but is still a quick, straightforward clean.
