What is the safest way to use my Dolphin Liberty induction charger?

Short answer: Use the original Maytronics charger in a shaded, protected area with a 120V GFCI outlet, and never put the charger in water.

Tools: Original Maytronics-issued battery charger, 120V GFCI outlet

Based on Maytronics support, updated 2025-02-03, rewritten by Poolbots' pool experts. Parts that fix it are below.

The answer

What to know.

These charging instructions apply to Dolphin Liberty models Liberty 200/300/400.

Charge safely

  1. Step 1: Choose a protected charging spot Charge in a shaded, protected area between 43°F and 95°F. Continue until the battery indicator shows 3 green bars. Charging can take up to 6 hours.

  2. Step 2: Check the charging surfaces Keep the charger and power unit surfaces clean. Make sure nothing is between the robot and the charger.

  3. Step 3: Keep the charger out of the water The charger is water-resistant and can handle splashes, but it is not designed for underwater use. Never place it in water.

  4. Step 4: Use the supplied charger Charge only with the original Maytronics-issued battery charger supplied with your Liberty robot.

  5. Step 5: Use a 120V GFCI outlet Connect the charger only to a 120V outlet protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).

Test the GFCI regularly

  1. Step 1: Press the test button Press the GFCI's test button. It should cut off power.

  2. Step 2: Press the reset button Press reset to restore power. If the GFCI does not shut off and restore power as described, it is defective.

  3. Step 3: Stop using the charger if the GFCI trips on its own If the GFCI cuts power to the charger without anyone pressing the test button, a ground current may be present. This can indicate an electric shock hazard. Do not use the battery charger.

  4. Step 4: Disconnect the charger and get help If the GFCI fails the test or trips on its own, unplug the battery charger. Chat with Poolbots' pool experts for help.

Important safety warnings

  • Do not use damaged equipment. A damaged battery charger can pose an electric shock risk. If the robot or its battery has mechanical damage, do not use the robot or battery.
  • Do not use an extension cord. Plug the battery charger directly into the electrical outlet.
  • Do not open, crush, heat, or burn the battery case. These actions can create a risk of fire and burns.
