Support answer · Using Your Robot

What is the right brush type for my pool?

Short answer: Match brushes to your Dolphin model: PVC and combined brushes suit all floor types; foam brushes are for extremely smooth, slippery surfaces.

Based on Maytronics support, updated 2025-04-21, rewritten by Poolbots' pool experts. Parts that fix it are below.

The answer

What to know.

How-to video

Your brush choice depends on your Dolphin model and your pool's surface. Brushes scrub and lift debris so the robot can suction it away more effectively.

Some Dolphin models have an active brush that spins at twice the robot's travel speed, providing stronger brushing action.

Three types of Dolphin brushes

PVC brushes

PVC brushes are recommended for every type of pool flooring. They come standard on the Active, S, and T lines.

Combined brushes (PVC + foam rings)

Combined brushes are also recommended for every type of pool flooring. They come standard on some models, including the Nautilus models and Premier models.

Keep the foam climbing rings in place. They help the robot climb and should not be removed. Replace them when they wear out and begin to break apart. See how to replace the climbing rings.

Combined Brush

Foam brushes (optional)

Optional foam brushes are recommended specifically for extremely smooth, slippery surfaces, including steel and very smooth mosaic tiles.
