Yes, but fine sand needs fine filtration. Standard cartridges let sand particles wash right back out, so it looks like the robot isn’t collecting it. NanoFilters capture fine sand and silt effectively. For a big sand load, a robot with strong suction and fine media will clear it in a cycle or two.
Why standard filters miss sand
Fine sand and silt are small enough to pass through the pores of a standard cartridge. The robot lifts it, but a chunk of it drains back into the pool as the water returns — which is why sand seems to reappear. The fix is finer media: NanoFilters™ hold the fine grains instead of releasing them.
Clearing a sand load
- Load NanoFilters (or your finest available media).
- Run a full cycle, then rinse the filter and run again — sand is heavy and packs a filter fast.
- Move slowly near piles so you don’t just blow the sand around; let the robot pass over it a few times.
Fix the source of recurring sand
If sand keeps returning, the source may be a failing sand filter (broken laterals or a cracked standpipe) pushing sand back into the pool. No robot can win that fight until the filter is repaired — so check your equipment if the sand never stops.
